Dummy

So, this film is called Dummy. And when my girlfriend suggested it to me, I was a bit concerned. She told me it was about a ventriloquist. At this point I began to tremble... What was I getting into? Then she told me who was in the film. Adrien Brody, Milla Jovovich and Illeana Douglas.

Writer/Director Greg Pritikin brings us a story about a man and a doll. But what's with this film? Brody plays a man stuck in a hell of a family, and in a hell of a life. He aspires to be a ventriloquist, and idolizes the great men and women before him. He purchases a Dummy, and keeps it with him at all times. As he is learning to be social, and trying as hard as he can to court his career counselor, Brody must overcome his fears about life, and step into his new self. This comedy takes him through the worst of families, and with the help of his punk (and now Jewish singer) high school friend (played by Jovovich) he wins the girl, and saves the day.

Though this isn't a great film, it has its entertaining points. It's a comedy, with Brody and a dummy. Why not see this film based on that alone? Again, not the best made film, but an interesting little coming of age story about a man confused and unsure of himself. Nothing on Tuesday night to entertain yourself, and looking for a cheap rental that'll bring a few chuckles? Brody, what? Go for it! Dummy has its moments! 6.5 of 10.
